چکیده

We present a semi-implicit numerical method for micromagnetics simulations, in the presence of spin-currents. The dynamics of the magnetization are described by the Landau–Lifshitz–Gilbert equation, while the dynamics of the spin are described by a diffusion equation with discontinuous coefficients. The complexity of the method presented is comparable to that of solving the linear heat equation with the Backward Euler method. To illustrate the procedure, we carry out three dimensional simulations of the magnetization reversal process in a magnetic multilayer when a current flows perpendicular to the layers. Spin-polarized currents are shown to decrease the coercive field, and to induce magnetization reversal even in the absence of external magnetic fields. 2006 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Direct evidence for significant spin-polarization of EuS in Co/EuS multilayers at room temperature

The new era of spintronics promises the development of nanodevices, where the electron spin will be used to store information and charge currents will be replaced by spin currents. For this, ferromagnetic semiconductors at room temperature are needed. We report on significant room-temperature spin polarization of EuS in Co/EuS multilayers recorded by x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD). Th...

Perpendicular spin valves with ultrathin ferromagnetic layers: Magnetoelectronic circuit investigation of finite-size effects

We address two finite-size effects in perpendicular transport through multilayers of ferromagnetic and normal metal layers: i the transport properties depend on the magnetic layer thickness when of the order or thinner than the spin-flip diffusion length and ii magnetic layers with thickness approaching the magnetic coherence length become transparent for spin currents polarized perpendicular t...

How to Measure Degree of Spin Polarization

Spintronics is an emerging field of research combining two traditional branches of physics: magnetism and electronics. It is based on the ability of ferromagnetic materials to conduct spin-polarized currents. The effectiveness of spintronics depends on the extent to which a current is spin-polarized [1], which in turn depends on the spin polarization of the ferromagnetic materials. All device d...

Semiclassical theory of spin-polarized shot noise in mesoscopic diffusive conductors

We study fluctuations of spin-polarized currents in a three-terminal spin-valve system consisting of a diffusive normal metal wire connected by tunnel junctions to three ferromagnetic terminals. Based on a spin-dependent Boltzmann-Langevin equation, we develop a semiclassical theory of charge and spin currents and the correlations of the currents fluctuations. In the three terminal system, we s...
